Anybody have a slick way to hone a bore nice and smooth, when it's too small to use a brake cylinder one. The situation is a pin about 1/2" in diameter moves back and forth in a hole about 1" long that's presently a rather sloppy fit. The seal is provided by one O-ring in a groove around the pin. The pin moves rather infrequently and not terribly fast. The catch is that it's in the bottom of an oil reservoir so any leakage will waste oil and make a mess. A proper oil seal would be better, as would a pin that's a better fit, but it is what it is. The pin is free-floating, not anchored to anything at either end, and has a small flange at the top end to keep it from falling out.

Before I try to get fancy about making a new pin and/or a bushing, I'm thinking it's worth trying to clean up the hole and hone and polish it if possible. I have a drill press and lathe but no milling machine, no valve guide reamers, or anything like that. Any clever tricks?
