Not quite that bad here, but my friends the same deal with the light drifting snow on top of the cemented old crust. It's really blizzarding over in Missoula. My friend there tells me they've had two avalanches right in town, which is something that never happens. One smashed a house and buried a child and a retired couple, all of whom were pulled out alive. I think my neighbor here in town must have run out of wood because a couple days ago he was up on the steep hillside above his house cutting down a dead tree. When it hit the ground, all the branches broke off and it went straight down the mountain like a toboggan headed right for his house. I thought it was going to deliver its into the living room but it got snagged on something just in time. At least he won't have to haul it far. My old-timer neighbor was telling me about the coal business he used to have -- $15 a ton, delivered, including mucking it back from the coal chute until your coal room was full. No wonder they could afford to keep all the old buildings warm back then.
