The wheel bearings are exposed to tremendous forces in extreme off road conditions. Therefore, the correct adjustment for the spindle nuts is 100 foot pounds. Torque the inner nut to 100 ft. lbs. spin the wheel several rotations and re-torque the nut. Keep doing this until no more incremental tightening of the nut is evident. Then back the nut off 1/6 turn. The outer nut should also be torqued to 100 ft. lbs, and should also be followed with successive re-torques and wheel spinning just as you did the inner nut. when the outer nut holds at 100 ft. lbs, you're done.
