About 40 years ago Charland's machine shop was the only one of its kind around here. There were probably 10 or 12 huge lathes. There was an overhead drive system, run by a single electric motor. All of the lathe, grinders and drill presses ran by belts driven by the overhead drive. I can still remember the sound of all those shafts and belts. Not many of those places around anymore.
