Those were something I got from Roberts parts, I don't use them because of the fear of what you mentioned. Really, I should take them off, but just haven't done so. I use the original latch mechanism that came on the truck to keep the hoods open. These were a purchase early on when I was going crazy accumulating parts and fishing through many online catalogs...found out that Roberts sold me a lot of stuff (when I was naïve) that wasn't really for the PWs though they told me it was...lesson learned and they are a good shop for some stuff, just need to really know what you want/need.
