I would find out why the switch failed and why the wires were burnt. If they were attached with spade terminals, that would be my first suspect. Sometimes they use them these days in applications where they really shouldn't. 30 amps is too much, especially with starting current of probably twice that. Spade terminals rely on the springiness of hard-drawn copper, and once they've gotten hot, they loose tension and get hotter and hotter.

And yes, I'd add probably add a proper starter, or at least a contactor, but then I have lots of them in the bone-yard so I never have to buy a new one. As a general rule in industrial controls, which is what you have, sensors should really just be "pilot duty" circuits, and high currents should be switched by dedicated contactors, relays, or motor starters. It's economical to try to combine the functions, but it's asking for trouble once you get up into that sort of power range.
