The skunks I've trapped haven't sprayed. To be safe get an old tarp or sheet. Hold it in front of you as you slowly approach the trap. drape over the trap gently. gently move the trap while covered. If you release them alive it can be tricky. Most are happy to leave. I've had to shake a few out.

Better than trapping is removing the food and shelter they are looking for. Blocking all access under things like the shed and fence and house. Removing the food can be extremely difficult if it isn't under your control. Once our neighbor found out we were killing everything we caught she stopped leaving food out. The problem evaporated in about two weeks and we have been mostly pest free for a year and a half.
