We had an '08 F550 at work that the emissions system started to act up on it. That crazy exhaust regeneration stuff. Well, something clogged and basically the engine was starving for boost. A female employee of ours was shuttling the truck late one evening from one local to another and she called me saying that the truck had no power and she was having to floor it to get it to pull even the smallest hill to keep up with traffic. I told her to slow down and get over to the edge of the nearest shoulder and "be gentle with it" for the remaining trip home.

She called 20 minutes later saying that it slowly lost all power and she got it to the shoulder of the road and tried starting it back and all it did was make a quick terrible grinding sound.

The grinding sound was it eating 8 teeth off of the flywheel with the starter...

The culprit was a plugged exhaust system causing turbo issues but the engine never de-fueled like one would expect it to. Instead she managed to melt 4 of 8 pistons in the engine. I asked her how much throttle she was giving it in the moments it was "almost dead" and she said "Floored"... Which was quite contrary to what I told her to do about backing out of it and NOT TO FLOOR IT... I explained to her the concept of a turbo diesel engine, boost, and EGT. She is one of these women who claims to be "one of the guys" a "car girl" and to top it off is a Structural Engineer... Her excuse was that she didn't know that it would "blow up" by having it floored for 20 minutes... $13,000 later for Reman Ford engine and labor...
