Hi Fred,
For the ONE year covered by those specifications, you are correct. However by 1973 the 'smogged' LA318 had dropped to 150 HP. As mentioned below, the Poly developed more torque at a lower RPM, that is more desireable for trucks. Also when equiped with a 4bbl the Poly jumped to 260 HP. The whole idea of the POlY/HEMI was better breathing, and as such the Poly responds much more favorably to mild engine work than the LA, and beyond that it is just plain cool to have a desendant of the HEMI under the hood. FYI, as of next year, ALL Mopar V-8's will be Polys, of course Chrysler is calling them HEMI's, but the combustion camber is pure Poly.
