Just my opinion. I have not heard many good reports on the Chevy diesel motors. The 440 is one hell of a good engine; why do you want to get rid of it? I have a '77 with the 440 / 727 combo; it's always been strong and reliable.
Not many folks I know like the General Motors diesel engines. If I was wanting to swap over to a diesel, that would be one of my last choices. How about a Cummins out of a late '80s Dodge??
