I don't think you'll find a better automatic tranny than the 727. I had a 76 dodge monaco for an enduro race car (junker) It slipped when I bought the car for $50. just tightened the bands up, one had no material left, and raced it. after the first race my brother and I swapped parts from another 727 to half *ss rebuild it. After the "rebuild" I took it out front of my house and full throttle with a 400cubic inch engine kept shifting drive to reverse and smoking the tires for a couple of times. ran the car another race and didn't have any trouble. I siezed the engine in the 2nd race, the oil pump drive broke while I was backing off the trailer. I ran about 4 laps until I got a flat tire then sat in the infield until the race was over, the engine siezed while I was pushing another car into the pits. It had 4 spun bearings. COOL
