Paul,

With the PTO rotating enginewise, 878 RPM of engine speed will rotate your PTO at 540 RPM. With the PTO rotating counter-enginewise, 1137 RPM of engine speed will rotate your PTO at 540 RPM. Just remember that the PTO operates at 61.5% of engine speed enginewise and 47.5% of engine speed counter-enginewise. This is why your winch cable will spool in slower than it spools out at any given engine RPM (unless someone has switched the worm and gear to the optional left-hand at one time or another, in which case it makes it nice for lowering wind mills smooth and slow).
