I don't know what size your rivets are, but I had to replace a bunch of rivets that attach the hood brace across the hood of my M37. I found that 3/16" carriage bolts had the same size head as the original rivets. I believe 3/16" bolts are the same size and pitch as #12 UNC. I doubt the carriage bolts are as strong as the orignal rivets, but in the case of the hood brace they're not under much stress. If the bolts you get have raised markings on the head, they can easily be ground down flush.
