You're thinking like I'm thinking. The problems you found are above the throttle plate. I'd think the problem you were looking for would be below the throttle plate.
Hopefully, a rebuild will solve the problem even if it's not been identified. It's better to be lucky than good.
I hope you get it running so you can use it this winter, if you have snow. I just solved a nagging problem myself (no, I'm not married) and it's a good feeling.
