Look up the capstone microturbines. They are a single unit with the generator, diesel fuel (or biodiesel) goes in electricity comes out. They can be mounted anywhere and they are air cooled so no radiator. The current market I believe is mostly stationary for power generation. The design is so simple there is virtually nothing to wearout. I believe Jay Leno had a hybrid supercar built with two Capstone turbines. Really I think the technology is just waiting for better batteries just like all hydrid cars. The whole concept seems to pass the KISS test better than most hybrid schemes in my opinion.
Right here is St. Louis we have a running Chrysler turbine car and they occasionally bring it to car shows. It is a smooooth running car.
