My '48 also has a condenser on the generator. I doubt that it is there for radio noise suppression since it is unlikely it was ever intended to have a radio.

I suspect that it is there to absorb spikes in voltage and help increase the life of the brushes, just as the condenser on the distributor prolongs the life of the points.

Condensers are used on other kinds of generators to help form the magnetic field. But, this is way out of my area of expertise, if I have any expertise, at all.
