The lower trunnion bearing and race are usually completely destroyed in the knuckles. I have seen the lower bearings literally fall apart when the knuckle is removed. The races in those knuckles had deep marks where the rollers had been pounded into them. I would check your bearings and be absolutely positive they are good before reusing them.
I agree with Vaughn that it sounds like something is not seated all the way somewhere in the axle.
Something else to think about is what kind of condition is the axle joint itself in? Could the joint be worn funny from the worn bushings.
Also check that there is a gasket behind the differential. If there is not a gasket here the axle to hub alignment will be off.
The last 60 years have not been gentle on these trucks and nearly anything can be worn out, broken, field repaired, or all three.
