I would consult a local electrician, voltage drop over that distance is significant, personally I would install a 220V feed to the gate then a step-down transformer to drop the voltage to 115-120 volts, at 220 the current draw is halved reducing the wire size and costs. The primary feed to my shop is about the same distance, so when I installed my primary electrical service, I wired for 480 volts 3 phase and placed a transformer at my building to step down to 120/240 3 phase to operate my machine shop equipment. I saved a lot in copper wire for the quarter mile plus from the pole to the shop building. (as well as reduced electrical power rates because of the high voltage) Good luck! Personally I would bury pvc conduit no smaller than 1 1/2" and use copper wire for higher reliability and the ability to increase the wire size or add circuits. Its cost effective to plan ahead with electrical (I am sure its the same when plumbing) Have fun!
