Transfer Case Idler Shaft Tighening

What is the best way to fully tighten the nut on the end of the idler gear shaft? I thoroughly cleaned the threads on the shaft and in the nut. Still, I can't get it very tight before the shaft starts to spin in the case. Impact wrench?
