After spending the Holidays in Florida with the In-Laws, we left Deerfield Beach (Florida) yesterday morning at 8:00 AM. Drove about halfway home, 14 hours to Roanoke Rapids North Carolina. Trying to evade as much of the storm as possible, we got on the road at 6:30 this morning. Hit the first snow on I-87 not long after crossing into New York from New Jersey. We were amazed how fast other drivers were going, we were doing 50 in a Subaru Outback with brand new snow tires and everyone was passing us like we were standing still. The interstate was snow covered and blowing. That said, we did get to see several of them later as we went past them in the ditch. We watched the temp drop steadily throughout the day. It was 38 degrees through New Jersey and dropped bit by bit and was at -10 when we got home. Once we got off the divided highways, it got crazy as cars and trucks would pass going the other way, kicking up huge billows of snow, making zero visibility for 5 seconds or so. We got home at 8:30 this evening, tired and really glad to be home!
A belated Happy New year to all.
Tim
