I have two bell housings for WW2 3/4 ton trucks both came out of running trucks.
The casting or part numbers are as follows.
921198-1
921198-2
neither of these are allowing a 6 volt starter to engage the flywheel.
I have determined that the 6 volt starters have a 1 1/4 inch diameter pinion and the 12 volt starters have a 1 inch pinion.
I believe this may be the issue. and that all the bell housings I have are for 12 volt trucks. I am pretty sure the part numbers for them are in the M601 parts book that they maybe for the 251 long motor.
My Ord 9 for the WC 3/4 ton shows a bell housing part number of 921197 for a 6 volt truck.
I have always assumed all the bell housing for the 230 cu.in. flatheads interchanged 6 or 12 volt starters.
My question is do the 230 six and 12 volt bell housing interchange and or was there a small 1 inch pinion 6 volt starter to allow this? What does the 921198-1 and -2 bell housings fit?
Hope someone has dealt with this cloudy issue before.

Thanks

Dave
