You first mention ring gap and then start talking about cylinder taper. Are you inferring that you are determining cylinder taper by measuring the ring gap?

It makes sense that ring gap is directly related to cylinder bore, but I didn't know it was done that way and you would need to do a conversion to get to the standard values used to determine acceptable cylinder taper.

Ring gap measurements are just to ensure that you don't have too much or too little gap at the ends of the rings.

To measure taper, you take measurements across and inline with the crank at top, middle and bottom of the cylinder.

I may be confused, or we may both be confused. Hopefully, someone will un-confuse us.
