A lot of the "primary wire" they sell these days has very poor quality PVC insulation that gets hard quickly. Since it's a fair bit of work to build a wiring harness, use good quality wire. I love the rubber-covered stuff on the M-series trucks, but I haven't found a source for it in large quantities. Rubber is also heat-resistant. Good quality PVC insulation holds up fine, but I don't know how to judge from looking at it. I know the stuff they sell in those assortment kits is only good for a couple of years if it's exposed to sunlight before the color fades and the vinyl gets hard.
