I can't comment on your Michelin experience Dave...other than to say that if the bias tire were comparable to radials, we'd still be running them on our new big trucks & 4x4's.
I'm not really a fan of xl's...xzl's are just a better tire but both are a vast improvement over any bias tire both on & off road.
The only negative I've ever heard about Michelin's is that the sidewall is vulnerable for serious rock crawling but since I don't do that kind of driving, it's never been an issue for me.
I can tell you though that I need about 4 sets of new tires right now & if you offered me 20 new STA's for my 5 Chinese radials...I'd have to decline :)
