Besides the ground polarity, is it a 6 or 12 volt truck. The adapters are designed for the 12-14 V of a normal vehicle. Even though USB is 5V, I'm not sure if the regulator circuit can handle 6V.
If the LED is just wired between the + and - and not off the output of the regulator ciruit like a lightbulb it will basically run either way at almost any voltage.
