I have had the air bag kiss me once and hope never to again. I had a 94 Dodge with the V-10, regular cab. The kid that hit me suddenly crossed over the line and hit me head on. He was in a late 70's Blazer. Highway Patrol estimated our impact speed at 98 miles per hr. It all happened in a blink of the eye. Next thing I remember was the seat belt pulling me back into the seat and the air bag laying in my lap. My left hand went through the wind shield and I had rug burn marks on both my arms due to the air bag. I was lucky and had very few injuries.

The kid who hit me was in bad shape but survived. My truck was totaled, the frame bent down right behind the cab and absorbed much of the impact. I also had a tool box on the front floor and it ejected it through the back window. The passenger compartment was completely intact.

What I found amazing to me was that right behind me was a small red compact car with a mother and 3 children in it. If me and my Dodge truck wouldn't have been in front of her I think they would have all been killed. I know that the guardian Angels were out that day. I believe that they put me in front of her for a reason. Funny thing is that she was the first one to get to me and ask if I was alright, she then started thanking me for saving her and her children, at this point I was totally confused as why she was saying that. It took me about a month or so to realize what she meant. Also the Blazer hit me right above the front license plate which happened to be a Firefighter Plate and I had just left the fire station and was on my way home. It was my own guys that responded to help me and the other kid.

Sorry for the long post, I guess reading about air bags reminded me again just how fragile life really is.
