I remember in 1973 or 1974 we had 18" of snow in Nov., which promptly melted off. Then now snow for the entire remaining winter. We had subzero conditions in Jan., and water pipes that were buried too shallow froze all over the place. Even some down 4 or 5 feet froze. When I built this house I buried the water line 6' deep. The only trouble I ever have is if I get over confident and don't let the water run a little at night, the wind will sometimes do what it did over last night, especially without enough snow at the edges of the buildings.
