I'm expecting a lot of trouble all over town with the combination of a week of near-zero weather and no snow on the ground. Here in town it's usually the meter boxes that freeze up. Some people stuff them with styrofoam scraps for insulation. Here in town I mostly worry about the unoccupied houses. Lots of people leave for the winter and even if they get their pipes blown out before they go, meters and service lines can still freeze. I think once the weather warms up the plumbers are going to be real busy.

I've had a frozen sink in one of my buildings, but I don't think anything broke. I'm going to check the other building this afternoon again, because there's a kitchen and restroom in the unheated part. I turned on a a couple of the radiators there yesterday and have been firing up the boiler briefly throughout the weekend, but the temperature sensors are reading 34-35 deg, which is cutting it close. I hate to really heat the whole building, because as it is, I'm probably looking at a $2000 Avista bill this month. Of course broken pipes are expensive too.
