Universal Building Code dictates the use of hot-dipped galvanized nails, bolts, washers and hangers with pressure treated lumber. I have seen decks built by some of the flaky builders in our area who used non-compliant nails and hangers. After a few months the metal products were corroded to the point of failure or non-existant. Besides it's really ugly.
