I'm with Tom, Make SURE your grounds are good at ALL locations. Factory relied on bare steel connections and star washers to dig in the paint and such. Bad grounds will cause erratic things to happen.

The only way around scratching paint to to preweld ground studs. I did them to cab to frame, frame to engine, bed to frame, etc. Even put them where all the lights would be as the bodies are supposed to be the grounds. That is why you do not have ground wires there.
