Why won't the output shaft work? IIRC all 4x4 727 trannies had 23 spline output shafts but the length varied depending on what year. Only the manual transmission used 29 spline outputs. So worse case scenario you need a 727 output for the same year as your 205, or a 205 input shaft from a 1978 205 to match your transmission output shaft length.
