That's another thing. I cleaned the head surface and no sign of the crack. Can't see it above the upper comp ring mark either. Honed some more and found that at the bottom inch and a half where the issue seems worse the mark gets wider suddenly. That all considered, along with no coolant issues, I think this may be a score mark. If the coolant jacket is a full 360 degrees around cylinder there is no way this could be a crack and not cause serious coolant issues. Color me sorely tempted. Thanks for the feedback, before pulling the engine I'm going to give it a go. When its back together I'll get it warm, put it under pressure and re-ck it.
