if it is an "around the yard truck" get a replacement rod and bearing and put it together and drive it. it is definetely a tough decision, and we all face it as owners of these trucks. do it right or put a band-aid on it. and then, where do you draw the line once you start spending money. is a 251 the motor you want or is a 4bt what you really want? 2-3k for a rebuild of the 251 vs? the list can go on and on. too much analysis leads to paralyisis, you know your budget and what you can live with. its just a matter of thinking on it overnight. good luck.
