It sounds like you are a putterin around, go ahead and try it before buying a kit just for the inlet needle.
I used to run my comman car ona a gas can hung fromt he top of the windshield post. Lust gravity, no pump, straight to carb.
And is if you have a small enough funnel, you can put it into the bowl vent tube inside the carb throat. Fill the bowl that way, and it'll run for a minute it two.
Put the air filter back on whenever you pour gas into the carb / throat, even to prime. The air filter acts as a flame arrester, keeps any flames inside. If you can't be colorful, safety first!
