Okay, so this "Franken-Truck" Carryall I have... which I have recently named "Tetanus the Menace"...

I've been trying to get it running by tinkering with it over the past few evenings. The mess of abandoned wires has been avoided and I have just wired up what I need to make it work, replaced and gapped the points, cleaned button and cap contacts, clean new plugs, wires seemed decent, and with pouring some spurts of fuel in the carb I can get it to cough so all is good there.

Now, fuel system. The OE fuel tank rotted out so the previous owners wrapped an offroad Aluminum fuel cell with inner tubes and then used cables to strap it back into the inside of the OE tank. Yikes. Anyways, it appears they were using an electric fuel pump but thats been robbed from the truck. The OEM fuel pump looks like its been capped off LONG ago with brass fittings. I also noticed that the Ball and Ball has a spring valve inside the fuel inlet. My question is... should the spring inlet be left in place and can I go back to using the OE mechanical fuel pump with this Carter Carb? Its difficult to blow through the fitting for the carb but I did pull it all out and it looks clean and functional. I want to just set it up with a small fuel container so that I can move the truck around so that I can get it to a better spot to actually drop the fuel tank conglomeration and come up with a better, safer situation.
