Good point about the "close together" aspect of the waves in non-ocean waters.
Here on the Chesapeake Bay, while smaller than the Great Lakes, it is similar in that with bad storms, the close "interval" between the bigger waves is what gets you.
I was caught on the Bay in a freak storm here about 35 years ago, and with the 6 foot waves and a short interval I thought I was going to be flipped over. As it was several people drowned that day with capsizes and I was extremely grateful that my son, brother and I survived it.
