I guess if a person is so unobservant that they can't even remember how they got to where they are, that "bread crumb" feature could be useful. It's hard to me imagine anyone so incompetent, but maybe if a person got caught in white-out on the Wyoming prairie somewhere they would need it.

Around here, the usual scenario is guy goes up for a little late-season hunting, drives too far, gets his rig stuck, tries to hike out, wasn't paying attention to the roads on the way in, goes the wrong way, doesn't have good gear, gets lost, tired, cold, and wet. Or young guy goes skiing, decides to check out the powder on the back side of the mountain, discovers he's successfully skied to the bottom of a place where nobody is, and climbing back up is way harder than skiing down was, gets lost, tired, cold and wet... etc.

I hope nobody got caught way out in the back country by this last storm, because it went from no snow anywhere, to snow down to 3000' right away. If somebody's stuck in the upper St Joe or Clearwater country at this point, they're looking at a 50 mile hike out, minimum.
