Yep, you are right. I was just thinking about my WM and remembered the VIN is on the right side on those. Anyway, the T137.com web page has the most complete information on VIN locations.
My suggestion is that you get the VIN number thing straightened out before you start spending money on a truck. Any truck without a VIN plate should take a hit in value.
