My opinion is, if it won't hurt you financially, get the second series bed. You don't want to go to all the effort and expense of a restoration and then be sorry that you didn't do it right. It might never bother you and if that is the case, no big deal. Only you can answer that.
Years ago I drove from CA to Wyoming to buy a truck. It was supposed to have a second series bed but instead had a third series. I told the man I would go to town, have lunch and think about. After lunch I called him and said I was not going to buy it. He said, "you drove all the way from CA and you're not going to buy it?" I told him I wasn't going to buy just because I drove all the way from CA. Never been sorry I didn't buy it. It was fully restored and I wanted a correct truck. I wasn't going to buy a fully restored truck, get it home and start tearing it apart so that I would be happy with it.
Just my opinion and as they say, "like *** holes, everybody has one".
