I've been trying to find a shop I can trust for years now & I've pretty much given up.
My latest try was 2 weeks ago on our trip to Phoenix to pick up another 300. There's a shop in Yreka, CA that I pass every time I head south. It's right on I-5 & it's called TNT Auto Restoration. I decided that since Yreka has a population of about 10,000 or so...wages must be lower than Vancouver! So I decide to drop in & chat with them since they always have old cars in the lot & the work always looks good from the hwy anyway.
I explain to the guy that I used to do all my own paint & body but I just can't stand it anymore & that it's just getting impossible to find a shop in Vancouver that will do restoration.
His response..."We only do Insurance work here" Huh? TNT Restoration? Yreka? How much Insurance work can there be?? What about all the cool old cars? Apparently the boss's cars.
Weird...even in the small town things have gone to pot.
So next thing I ask what the labor rate is...$70/hr! HUH?? We're in Yreka man! There's not a man in that shop making over $20/hr & this whole building isn't worth $200K in this area...somebody's making too much money & it isn't me!
No wonder the boss has so many cool old cars :)
