You need to be careful doing any soldering on that bottom tank. It takes a fair amount of heat do to the heat that will be absorbed by the bottom tank There is a risk that you will unsolder or in some way affect some other solder joint on the bottom of the radiator. Of course, this risk applies to any radiator shop, they just have more experience then you do.

Also, after the soldering is done — and because of this risk – the radiator needs to be pressure tested. I think you need to find a competent shop and have them finish this job. Otherwise you might end up having to remove the radiator again because of a new leak.

A more primitive alternative might be to make up a new lower hose as a two-piece assembly that is connected by means of a splice tube that includes a drain plug. Just a thought.
