At a gas station, a guy walking past said to me "hey, nice truck." After I thanked him, the woman at the pump next to me, putting gas into her new Volvo station wagon, snarled at me and said "it's a dirty old gas hog, if you ask me." I turned to her and said "in the first place, I didn't ask you, and in the second place, at least I bought American."
