Thanks. My W500 steered very easily, as does my W300, with the assist system. I would assume the main reason for using it would have been economics. Although they are prone to leakage through the hydraulic fittings and seals, they do an excellent job. And it probably was easier for the engineers to adapt than a complete power steering box system.
