thanks for all who responded with input.
i am one who the older i get the less i like to learn the hard way. again thanks to all who commented but:
i got everything from "enjoy your trip nothing will happen" to "no improvement in mpg" to "more power to the rear" to " if you drive it like that damage will occure"

does anybody really know?
even though the front diff is turning it would be independant. able to coast at it own speed opposed to that of the rpm of the motor/rear end correct? this must help some.
are there clutches inside the transfer case that need that front hook up inorder to turn yhe rear shaft?
does anybody really know?
