It is not totally dependent on temperature. Take into consideration what the truck is used for, heavey loads or no to light loading. Will it be doing a lot of hill climbing with a load in hot weather. How often will your engine really heat up or comple close to overheating. Look at it from the other side. Cold weather starting. Will the truck be outside or in a heated garage.

If your in a desert and drive in the heat of a summer day or you live in a cold climate where cold starting is an issue then I would start looking at adjusting the oil I use to the climate and other conditions. I can not give you an answer as to what oil to use, use your common sense, think about the climate that your in. What do other people do. How will you use the truck. The 230 has no special oil requirements that are different than most engines.

In your case, If it was a 90 degree summer day and I was going to go up into the Rockies and I knew that I had several long steep hill climbs and I was carrying a load at all I would make sure that I had an oil that would not thin out too much (More than that I would make sure the cooling system was in great shape). If I were to do the same thing in the middle of winter I would not be as concerned as I know that the truck would be running cooler when the air temp is 10 or 15 degrees rather than 90 degrees (I also would not be as concerned about the cooling system). Think how much will the conditions stress the oil and the engine and choose accordingly.
