David, I have built MANY of these transmissions since they came out in 1962. That was my occupation back then. I am currently a Machinist and occasionally rebuild transmissions. If you will describe the problem better, I may be able to help. You stated thet it would not go into low. Put the transmission in LOW gear manually and tell me what happens. If it will move in MANUAL low, you have an overun clutch, sometimes called a sprag clutch,that has gone bad. What model truck is it? How many miles? Is the fluid burnt? How long has it been doing this?
