AC was awarded a contract to build 3 engines for 3 container ships in 1978. The first was put in the President Lincoln followed by the President Washington and the President Monroe. The engine weighed in at 1,278 tons and was built under subcontract of Sulzer Brothers Limited of Switzerland. The bed plate weighs 80 tons and is 80 feet long. The cylinder jackets weigh 15 tons each. The engines completed length is 82 feet long by 36 feet high and 14 feet wide. Produced 43,200 horsepower at 126 revolutions per minute. Each of it 12 cylinders is 3 feet in diameter.
