My '64 service manual shows all models with a 318 as poly engines, but with the 318-1 as mechanical lifters, 318-2,-3 as hydraulic. The mechanical lifter engines are listed for use on 100-300 models, but I'd guess the 318-3 was used in the W300. The -2 and -3 engines also had smaller! stellite faced ex. valves and positive rotators, as well as a vibration damper and roller timing chain.
