I too have a W-300 (a '66) with hyd. lifter poly 318. I also have a '65 d-200 with solid lifter poly. The service manual differentiates the engines as 318-1, for cars, 318-2 for light trucks, both solid liftered, and a 318-3 for med. and HD trucks. According to the service manual, the 318-3 could be ordered with a D or W-300, and was standard in the 400's on up (provided you opted for the 318, and not the base slant six). This is based on the '66 service manual.
