The correct nomenclature is according to the "American Electricians Handbook", Twelfth Edition edited by Terrell Croft (deceased) and Wilford I. Summers (no relation to me), copyright 1992 by McGraw-Hill, Inc. All Rights Reserved, Chapter: "Pole Lines: General, Construction, and Equipment", page 8-9, paragraph 21 (see image above) is: "In modern practice gin poles are permanently mounted on the front of trucks for transportation and are then called pole derricks."
